Communication on update of planned review date for Achievement Standards

As a standards-setting body the Ministry of Education has responsibility for reviewing the achievement standards that assess outcomes from the National Curriculum. This is to ensure that the standards are up to date and remain fit for purpose.

Currently most achievement standards have a planned review date of December 2018.

As a qualification developer the Ministry is required to review the NCEA qualifications and this is also scheduled for 2018.

The broader review of the NCEA needs to precede the more detailed review of the achievement standards, as the outcomes of the former may influence the latter review.

The Ministry has therefore decided to "rollover" the planned review dates for achievement standards until December 2019. This will have no impact on the standards themselves for 2018 and 2019. The earliest any changes to the achievement standards would take effect would be in 2020.
