2013 Review of Education for Sustainability Achievement Standards
The Ministry of Education, in association with NZQA, have completed the review of the Levels 2 and 3 Education for Sustainability achievement standards. This review was undertaken to ensure the standards meet quality design principles for achievement standards and recognise worthwhile outcomes that relate to The New Zealand Curriculum (NZC), and are derived from the Ministry of Education’s Teaching and Learning Guide for Education for Sustainability. A working group and advisory group were formed to guide this review. Members of those groups were drawn from diverse backgrounds and diverse schools and organisations.
Consultation and feedback
Schools and other stakeholders provided feedback on the draft matrix, Conditions of Assessment, achievement standards and assessment resources during a four-week public consultation period.
The new Education for Sustainability assessment resources for NCEA Level 2 and Level 3 (to support the new standards) are now available. These resources are aligned to the Education for Sustainability 2015 matrix.
The expiring internal standards and associated assessment resources were still available for use and assessment until the end of 2015.
However, assessment against the expiring externally assessed achievement standards took place during December 2014 for the last time. From 2015 external assessment will apply to the new achievement standards only.
